In fact, it is quite spendy, so I did not purchase the audiobook yet. Four stars out of five. Skyward is a series of young adult Science Fiction novels written by American author Brandon Sanderson. It started with a short story in 2008 called Defending Elysium, and was later expanded on in 2018 with the novel Skyward. It will be followed by a sequel, Starsight, in 2019. Cytonic is the third book in the Skyward series by Brandon Sanderson. It is the sequel to Starsight.^[1]

Development[edit]

In a Reddit Q&A leading up to the release of the first book, Brandon stated that the trilogy would likely become a four book series.^[3] In his 2018 State of the Sanderson, he stated that due to the amount of time needed to complete Rhythm of War, Cytonic '[wouldn't] be written until 2020, for a spring 2021 release.'^[4] In the 2019 State of the Sanderson, this was updated to writing in late 2020 for a 'likely' 2021 release.^[5]

At some point in early 2020, Brandon was planning on writing the book with two alternating points of view, Spensa and someone else,^[6] but later decided on doing a series of audio novellas to accompany the book's release instead of including the second point-of-view character.^[7]

Brandon originally wanted to call the book Nowhere, but the publisher opposed that idea and he ended up deferring to their request.^[8][9]
